And Then There's Margaret by Carolyn Clarke

Life is a pity party extraordinaire for Allie whose mother-in-law (Margaret) is one for the books. When Margaret’s husband dies, she temporarily moves in with Allie and Hank. Margaret proceeds to take over the house. She is critical and full of barbs aimed at Allie. Allie is as gracious as she can be until the intolerable behavior becomes way too much. There are a few humorous scenes but not enough to bring relief from Margaret’s behavior. I finished the book but really wanted to just close it and walk away.
