To Get to the Other Side by Kelly Ohlert

Cute, funny and full of love, To Get to the Other Side is a charming novel. The main characters, Trixie and Bear (along with her chicken) are adorable together. Things are not always perfect as Trixie struggles with hidden insecurities and Bear with past hurts. I loved the very witty sections that made me really smile.

A business, an in trouble marriage, an old building, and love: these intertwine to create a captivating novel. Marnie owns Wish & Co, a charming gift store. She is also a personal shopper for people who have no time to shop or don’t know what to buy. Marnie has high dollar clientele who have helped her to save money to buy her grandfather’s old, rundown building. Unfortunately, a huge gift snafu ignites a fire in a previously happy marriage. When she meets Luke, the son of the wrong gift mother, things improve for Marnie’s personal life, just not for her work life.

The Family Compound by Liz Parker

A family thrown into conflict over the family compound they have inherited is the

basis for the novel. The story is woven with the personal conflicts of the female cousins

and with the arguments over whether to sell or not. The men in the book drift in and out

but this is not their story. It is the story of the women and all the turmoil they are

experiencing.

I really tried to enjoy the novel but felt there was a lack of cohesion and wearied of such immature adults.

The Friendship Pact by Jill Shalvis

A winning novel enticing you to fully engage in the story of mother and daughter, Alice and Tae, and of Tae’s growing feelings for a long ago friend, Riggs. Due to other circumstances, she ends up staying at his home and working with him on his novel. She is the feisty spirit needed to light a match under him.She gets under his skin and causes him to really look at all the stuff he has avoided. Daughters bring their families together on a short vacation to an eco-friendly Australian island.

Parker and Matty are married and hopeful their parents will finally gel. Amelia is planning to introduce her boyfriend James. Like the volcano that erupts on their first day, so like the emotions of everyone stuck on the island after a tsunami halts travel home. The tsunami washed away so much and deposits dead animals and non-native animals on the island. It is so like the emotional changes taking place-some things depart, others arrive.

It is a fascinating story of how much can change in a six week period of isolation.

I loved this novel. It is filled with emotions, back stories of pain and regret and wonderfully crafted characters. The topic of racism in a small Mississippi town is threaded throughout the text with true depictions of how it can run rampant through areas. The story of the love growing between Jasmine and Rhett is so heartfelt and lovely.

His Best Friend's Baby by Barbara Hannay

His Best Friend’s Baby is a great start to a new series, Outback Babies. Seth and Polly were best friends for years until she moved from Wirralong to Melbourne. Time apart has not dulled the meaning of their friendship. When she approaches Seth with a critical question, he is flabbergasted and turns her down. Not being able to forget her, he visits her in Melbourne where life isn’t rosy and Polly is eight months pregnant. From this point on, all things take off and create a wonderful story of friends, of love, and of memories.

Producers Kat and Matt come up with a great idea: a wedding of the last couple who accidentally matched. Kat and Matt are friends but underneath it all, they each other. The dead residents of the Maple Street Cemetery narrate the story and often interject with their comments.
